FIRST AID POLICY
Introduction
This First Aid Policy sets out the procedures for The Dear Academy to ensure appropriate care is provided in the event of illness, accident, or injury to a child, staff member, or visitor. The policy complies with the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 and DfE guidance for early years providers. The Dear Academy is committed to maintaining a safe environment and delivering prompt, effective first aid when needed.

First Aid Trained Personnel
Elizabeth Powell, Founder and CEO of The Dear Academy, holds a valid Paediatric First Aid Certificate completed with Daisy First Aid as of May 2025. Elizabeth is the designated first aider for all activities.

First Aid Kits
Fully stocked first aid kits are maintained on site and checked monthly for expired or used contents. A travel first aid kit is available for any off-site sessions or outdoor learning activities.

Procedures in the Event of Illness or Injury
-
Assess the situation to ensure safety for both the injured person and others.
-
Administer appropriate first aid within the scope of training.
-
Contact emergency services if the injury is serious or life-threatening.
-
Notify the parent/carer as soon as possible.
-
Complete an accident/incident record detailing the nature of the injury, treatment given, and any follow-up advice.

Recording and Reporting
All incidents requiring first aid must be recorded in the Accident Record Book. Significant injuries will be reported to Ofsted if required under the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) guidance. Parents will receive a written or verbal summary.

Administration of Medication
No medication will be administered without prior written parental consent. Medications must be clearly labelled and stored securely. A Medication Record will be maintained detailing dose, time, and the name of the person who administered it.

Allergies and Individual Health Plans
Parents must inform The Dear Academy of any allergies or medical conditions. If necessary, an Individual Health Plan will be drawn up with the parent and relevant professionals to support the child's needs in an emergency.

Review and Responsibility
This policy will be reviewed annually or sooner if guidance or circumstances change. Responsibility for implementation and review lies with Elizabeth Powell, Founder and CEO.
